In the above artwork three pictures are displayed by Justin Aerni: Even Mice Bleed; Bad Intentions; Ronald Likes Em Young. We think that this artwork should be displayed again this year due to the uniqueness of the paintings. All three paintings tell a story, each of these stories fit the same style and theme. Although it may be a dark theme, they all have a sense of truth behind them.
The first painting is of two mice who we can only suspect to be the beloved children's character. The painting depicts this sense of darkness that comes from that character, even though the character is known for always being happy and nice. It is a take on a corporation who is only trying to 'sniff out' ways to get more money from parents. The second painting is of nursery rhyme characters with monsters drawn all around them. This is a twisted take on the story behind the nursery rhymes, and even though the songs are well known, they are based on something very dark and some even might say evil. The third, and final painting is of a "mascot" for a large fast food chain, and I'm sure you can guess who the painting is referring to. We found it very interesting how this mascot is depicted. His eyes are replaced by money signs, and towards the bottom of the painting a baby is attached to a Big Mac. It is as if society is deeply addicted to this chain restaurant that even the quality of the product doesn't matter. The corporation will always make money.
These paintings are still relevant to this day because of how corporations advertise. Children are the main target for many big corporations. It is almost as if the theory is true that media has brainwashed society, and these paintings by Justin Aerni depict that well.
