relativity
by Rukiiyah Sekka
Is this my mind
or a product
of reality
stretching, testing
these boundaries
my eyes dipped in
gray scale
clouded by
the universe that
chuckles at my confusion
showing me scenes of
life I can
only yearn for
as my dreams go
wild
If right side up is the
right way down
is the path I’m taking
a waste of time
What if they intersect
crossing this way
that way
all the way around
does it matter if I take
these senseless stairs
and mold gravity to
my desires
of something
ambiguous
Rukiiyah Sekka is a Junior at New Mexico State University, majoring in Creative Writing, with a minor in Literature. Poetry is a fairly new endeavor for her, as she typically writes fiction, though she has come to love poetry just the same. Her hope is that her degrees will lead her to a job in the publishing industry as an editor, or in similar writing fields. She loves spending time with her SO, a riveting book, and a cup of green tea on a good day. You can find her under the Instagram handle _ruki.ruki22_ or on Twitter @chillyavocado19.
We have been in a couple of classes together,
though nowadays almost no one tried to know anyone else.
Like you,
I do mostly fiction too
(Just finished reading
"Relativity" by Ai
about the Japanese physics student
who was and
was not her father).
In the fall,
I will be writing some poetry too
with an instructor
yet to be determined.
